I wa recently diagnosed with Acid Reflux… after going through several treatments, I still have pain.?

What else could it possibly be? I took an upper GI tract test of some sort before I was diagnosed, and I really cant believe that the test was not accurate… I recently did a C UREA breath test, and Ill have the results to that test in about a week now. Im just wondering what I can expect. Ive spent the past few hours trying to find answers online, but I find nothing else.

  1. I had very severe Acid Reflux when I was little. when I was four years old I had a fundoplication as it was so bad. This is an option for most people with severe Acid Reflux. For more information on a fundoplication email me.
Have you had an endoscopy? They are always a good way to find out how severe it is.

iT USUALLY TAKES CONSTANT, CONTINUOUS MEDICATION & PROPER DIET TO CURE acid-reflux !!! Don’t expect it to be cured in just a few treatments!!! It took about 10 months or more for mine to be “cured” and it can always come back if you dont follow your doctor’s instructions carefully!
So, take your meds & keep regular appointments & eat properly. BEST WISHES, AUNT BARBIE

I had Acid Reflux for years. I tried all of the prescription medications (prevacid, prilosec, nexium, aciphex, protonix and zegerid) and none worked for me. After getting an esophogeal motility test and a 48 hour bravo chip test I elected to get surgery.

I did a lot of homework and had Dr. Daniel DeMarco in Dallas at Baylor Medical Center do an endoscopic fundoplication.

I had the procedure about 6 weeks ago and went from having Acid Reflux 12-15 times per day to now having it about once per week.

Quality gastro doctors are hard to find and very few of them seem willing to think outside the box…but if you have real reflux that is causing a poor quality of life for you…do your homework yourself…surgery may or may not be right for you but it seems to have dramatically helped me.

One warning…the esophogeal motility test is unlike anything that I have ever encountered…it is not fun at all…but it is a necessary part of the evaluation to make sure that your espophagus is pushing food down.

Good luck with your reflux…I hope that you get it under control.

Incompetence of the lower esophageal sphincter allows reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus, causing burning pain. Prolonged reflux may lead to esophagitis, stricture, and rarely metaplasia. Diagnosis is clinical, sometimes with endoscopy, with or without acid testing. Treatment involves lifestyle modification, acid suppression using proton pump inhibitors, and sometimes surgery.
Please see the web pages for more details on Gastroesophageal reflex disease.

  6. The Other Grandpa Says:

    Learn to poop.
Stop spending all your money on doctors.
You are not eliminating waste efficiently.
You aren’t pooping regularly or enough so when you eat new food, it has no place to go.
I had Acid Reflux for years and went to several doctors and had all the medications.
I finally fixed it by listening to a little old lady who told me to poop.
As it turned out, I was chronically constipated but didn’t know it.
If the food you eat has no place to go because your bowels are blocked, dry, slow, or impacted, the food will back up into your duodenum and stomach. The result is Acid Reflux.

Clean your bowels and eat foods that improve your digestion and elimination. I won’t list them here. You can look up foods that will help you poop on Google

I don’t know what will work for you, but I used Nature’s Secret Ultimate Cleanse.

I don’t have Acid Reflux any more.

When you poop regularly, you eliminate not only food waste but dead cells & other body waste and toxins.
The result is good health. Skin and color improves. Allergies go away. Sluggishness and tiredness disappear. You have more energy and feel great.

  7. Yes it will take a few good days for your medicine(s) to actually start to work and the answer from the other grandpa is good sound advice. But for a quick fix which you are wanting right now you may want to take this antacid called Titralac you can find it at most Walmarts, it comes in a small bottle with a yellow cap and is usaully by itself sitting across from all the other antacids but remember it is only a short quick fix not a cure.

It is possible that the pain will linger for some time, I was on medication and had treatment for years and I still experience pain. It is all in what you do in your daily life that also attributes to it also.

I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!

Three part answer information, what not to do, and what to do!

    INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, or can be Hereditary

The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is rarely a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.

    WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:

    Fatty Foods
    Citrus Foods
    Foods That Contain Grease
    Fried Foods
    Chocolate (including any Coco)
    Caffeine
    Smoking
    Alcohol
    Tomato Based Products
    Lactose

    WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.

I would also look to putting Cinnamon in you diet, it has been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.
